ABOUT 43’33”

In both name and ethos, 43’33” pays homage to John Cage’s 4’33”, which arguably did more for listening than any other musical moment of the past 100 years.*

Over the course of four minutes and thirty-three seconds, Cage revealed that it is only through listening that sound has the potential to be transformed into music.

Working with sound to uncover its potential is the guiding principle in everything we do. We think of this as working to make sound more readily ‘found’. Regardless of whether this may be recording, mixingmastering, sound design or production, this ethos remains steadfast.

All of this amounts to nothing, of course, if the results don’t speak for themselves. We are determined that all the work we complete is closer to what you intended. Accordingly, it is our policy that if you ever deem this to not be the case, you simply do not pay for it. Unconditionally.
Of equal importance is our commitment to building strong, long-term relationships with the people we work with. This is necessary within the field of audio production as we collectively navigate our way through loudness wars, perpetual format shifts, ever-changing normalisation metrics, innovations in sound reproduction technology, and so on.

Finally, we are well aware that the relationship between how much you care about your project and the amount of money you may have to spend on that project often bare little correlation to each other. For the time being, this is a fact of the world we live in. If this applies to you, please don’t let it deter you from getting in contact, as it is also our ethos to do our (very small) part to redefine the relationship between economic value and the value of creative contributions to culture.

No matter what your circumstance, we happily offer obligation-free quotes, consultation, feedback and/or advice, so please get in touch.

*43’33” is also an excellent length for an album
